Dr. Sumi Helal Managing Partner. Fellow, IEEE, is a Professor at the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida. He is a recognized leader in the fields of Mobile and Pervasive Computing. His current research focuses on Smart Spaces (new technological enablers, architectures, ecosystem, intelligent interactions, and real-world deployments), Internet of Things (scalable cloud-sensor architectures for smart cities, IoT programmability, and city-scale IoT optimizations), and Assistive Technology (successful aging, affective and persuasive interactions, context-driven simulation, and assistive technology for the blind and hearing impaired). He is well-known for his interdisciplinary research on smart homes and Health Telematics in support of Health Care and Aging, Disabilities, and Independence (ADI). During his career, Harald has proven his capabilities as a global manager, transforming and building businesses in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa.
Harald has been a prominent standards influencer and spokesman for the telecommunications industry. He has served as treasurer of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and was a member of its executive board. He served on the Board of Directors of BigBand Networks (NASDAQ: BBND) and is currently on the Board of Directors of Tarana Wireless, Inc. and is Chairman of its Advisory Board. In addition Harald is on the Board of CLAdirect INC., a Solution Technology provider and Dialogic INC., a leading provider of cloud-optimized real-time multimedia processing solutions and network infrastructure solutions.

For more than 30 years, Bob focused primarily on intellectual property litigation, serving as lead trial counsel and/or appellate counsel in dozens of patent, copyright, trade secret and antitrust cases involving a wide range of technologies and industries. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a former chair of the Antitrust Section of American Bar Association, and a Lifetime Member of the American Law Institute.
Bob has written and lectured extensively on the business and legal problems associated with both intellectual property protection and the laws related to competition. He served for several years as the co-chair of the Antitrust Committee of Intellectual Property Owners Association and also as a Member of IPO’s Amicus Committee. Bob also served as a member of the 1992 Commission on Patent Law Reform.
Bob holds a J.D degree from Georgetown University Law Center and was a member of the editorial board of the Georgetown Law Journal. He holds a B.S.E.E degree from the University of Arizona and was elected to Tau Beta Pi.
